Madagascar midfielder Lalaina Namendjanahary has signed a new contract that will keep him at Paris FC until May 2021, the club announced on Thursday.

Madagascar midfielder Lalaina Namendjanahary has signed a new contract that will keep him at Paris FC until May 2021, the club announced on Thursday.

The 33-year old midfielder joined Paris in the summer of 2016 from another French side, Lens for a fee of $2.5 million.

Paris boss Mehed Bazdarevic was pleased with Namendajahary extending his stay with the PFC, “I’m very pleased Namendjanahary has signed a new contract with us. He is a great player and I look forward to working with him and our other talented players in the squad,” said Bazdarevic.

Since joining the team, Namendjanahary has scored six goals and made five assists in the 31 games in all competitions.

The natural winger has been often deployed in a more central role to make up for the striker injury blow at Paris.

He has himself returned from a lengthy injury that kept him away since August until December to score 2 goals in 8 appearances so far.

Namendjanahary’s contract was set to expire in summer 2019 but he has committed his future to two more years.

Namendjanahary is expected to shine for the Madagascar national team in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations where the Buea are grouped in Group B with Burundi, Nigeria and Guinea for the tournament which will take place from 21 June to 19 July.
