This season’s FDH Bank Cup final has been rescheduled and will now take place on Sunday October 23, the Football Association of Malawi has confirmed.
The original game between Nyasa Big Bullets and their Reserve side was scheduled on October 8 at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
A Football Association of Malawi statement said the decision to move the game was necessitated because one of the finalist Nyasa Big Bullets Reserve has contributed about eight players to Malawi U-20 national football team.
“As you might be aware, our junior Flames are participating in a CAF sanctioned competition which is the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Youth Championship qualifier in eSwatini between 6th and 16th October 2022. So the dates clashed with FDH Bank Cup final,” reads a statement signed by FAM director of competitions and media, Gomezgani Zakazaka.
“ As per our rules and regulations, a team which contributes more than three players to the national team is exempted from the fixtures.”
Nyasa Big Bullets have also confirmed that the he venue for the FDH Bank Cup final, which has been widely dubbed as “a family affair” by the local press, remains Kamuzu Stadium.
The Reserves reached the stage after knocking out three TNM Super League teams before beating their fellow second-tier outfit, Extreme FC 2-1, to secure their place in the final.
On the other hand Nyasa Big Bullets sailed to the final after beating Mighty Mukuru Wanderers 4-0 in the semi-final match played at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
