Mali Football Governing Body Elects New President

Mali Football Federation elected a new president to manage affairs of the football governing body for a period of four years, putting an end to the mandate of the FIFA Normalization Committee.

Mali Football Federation (FEMAFOOT) on Thursday elected a new president to manage affairs of the football governing body for a period of four years, putting an end to the mandate of the FIFA Normalization Committee.

Mamoutou Toure was elected the president of FEMAFOOT by 32 votes ahead of his close rival, the vice-chairman of AS Bamako, Salah Babby with 30 votes according to results released by FEMAFOOT.

“After so many years of crisis, we must start with the reconciliation and total reorganisation of Femafoot for the transparent management of the business,” the new FEMAFOOT President told journalists.

“Believe me, there’s a need to re-evaluate our ethics, which is very important because we have turned our back on ethics for too long. This is the time to re-evaluate ethics.”

Other executive members will be elected by FEMAFOOT General Assembly to work closely with Toure.

FEMAFOOT, which has been in crisis for several years, was led by a Normalization Committee appointed in December 2017 by FIFA.

Mali had previously been banned by FIFA for governmental interference into the running of the country’s football. The ban was lifted when the normalization committee was allowed to begin work.
