Mali Hot-shot Rejects World Cup Call for AFCON

Teenage sensation Chiek Duocore has turned his back on an invitation to play in the U-20 World Cup in favor of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Teenage sensation Chiek Duocore has turned his back on an invitation to play in the U-20 World Cup in favor of the Africa Cup of Nations.

The 19-year-old was included by both Mali’s U-20 and senior national team respective coaches.

The midfielder has been a huge revelation this crusade in the French second tier with Lens and was being considered integral by gaffer Mamoutou Kane for the youth World Cup billed to kick-off May 23rd in Poland.

However, the midfielder, starring for Lens in the promotion play-offs, prefers to take part in the Nations Cup scheduled for Cairo and has written back to Kane notifying him of his decision.

“We counted a lot on Duocore. We told him our intentions to include him in the U-20 World Cup. He himself contacted us to tell us he is not ready for this competition that he is concentrating for the moment on the national team,” Mamoutou Kane told the press.

Chiek Oumar has been fielded twenty-six times this ongoing season, twenty-three of it being from the line up in a move that shows coach Montainer’s growing confidence in the defensive-minded play-maker.
