Mauritius national team head coach Boualem Mankour on Tuesday officially signed a two-year contract, two weeks after he was named to the post.

The Mauritius Football Association (MFA) announced that the Algerian had finally put pen to paper and was now focused to build a team for the 2020 Council of Southern Africa Football Associations tournament scheduled to take place between June 13-27.

Mankour was appointed the Mauritius national team head coach on March 3, 2020 taking over from sacked Akbar Patel.

In a past interview with a Mauritius newspaper, Mankour said that he has set clear objectives in building a new team for the future.

“I will start by watching some games, talk with the coaches, clubs, the players in the selection,” he said after a meeting with the Mauritius Sports Minister on Tuesday.

“We will look for new talents – as the future is with the youth – as we start to prepare for the next two years but we already have two games against Djibouti at the end of March.

“There were some errors in the past and ‘Club M’ must have a Mauritian identity. Of course, we will need the expats, who bring some level, but we must look at local players.”

Meanwhile, MFA have appointed South African national Zunaid Mall as the new head of development.

The experienced coaching instructor has been heading up the Technical Study Groups at various COSAFA tournaments for a number of years.

Mauritius is currently ranked 172nd out of 210 countries by FIFA, according to statistics published in the month of February.
