Mauritius International Goalkeeper arrested for Drug dealing

Mauritius International goalkeeper Joseph Kinsley Steward Leopold has been arrested by the Anti-Drug Smuggling Police for dealing Heroin.

The 22-year old who was part of the country’s last African Cup of Nations qualifying campaign was found with 27 doses of heroin and a further one gram of the drug. The Mauritius Anti-Smuggling Unit also found equipment used in the preparation and packaging equipment like measuring scales and razor blades.

According to information gathered by Yasine Mahabuth of the BBC, the police had been tracking Leopard to gather information about the illegal trade.

Leopold is the first choice goalkeeper for Mauritius professional league Champions ASPL2000 and was part of the national team during the AFCON Qualifying campaign. He was also part of the ASPL 2000 team that won the Charity Shield on Saturday.

As news broke of his arrest, some individuals surrounded his Port Louis home to tried and stop the ADSU from taking the player into custody but all in vain.

The player has been charged with drug dealing and wont feature for the Mauritius Football champions for the foreseeable future.

Both his team and the Mauritius Football Association refused to comment on the issue.
