Kenyan rally ace Maxine Wahome was on Thursday released on USD 1,000 (Ksh 100,000) bail after being arrested for an incident of domestic violence.
The 24-year-old was arrested on Monday and detained at Kilimani Police Station for an alleged assault incident involving a man.
Wahome was released on bail by Milimani Law Court magistrate Bernard Ochoi, who also directed that the celebrated driver report to the case Investigating Officer on weekly basis.
The Kenyan police had asked the court to detain Wahome for 14 days in order to complete investigations but the magistrate declined the application.
“The court is not persuaded that there are compelling reasons to warrant her pre-trial detention. I direct that she be released on a cash bail of Sh100,000 with condition that she reports to the police station once every Thursday of the week,” ruled Ochoia as per The Standard.
The case will be mentioned on January 12, 2023, as the judge has added that it was still premature to determine who assaulted the other.
Wahome rose to fame in 2022 when she became after she became the first Kenyan female driver to win the World Rally Championship-3(WRC3).
His performance at the Safari Rally was more impressive as she had never driven a Ford Fiesta car before the event.
