Mbwana Samatta Becomes Permanent Fenerbahce Player

Aston Villa striker Mbwana Samatta has completed a permanent move to Fenerbahce, having spent last season on loan at Turkish club.

The 28-year-old Tanzania international joined the Lions from Belgian side Genk in 2020 on a four-year deal.

Fenerbahce held talks with Aston Villa in recent days and agreed to sign the player on a three-year contract, according to Tanzanian publication Mwanaspoti.

He has joined the Turkish giants on an initial season-long loan towards the end of the summer transfer window.

However, the former Mazembe star only scored five goals in 27 league appearances since then and had lost his place in starting eleven.

During his stay at Aston Villa, Samatta found the back of the net on his Premier League debut against Bournemouth and also in the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City in March.

But those were his only two goals for the club and he struggled for form when the Premier League restarted in last June.

The arrival of Burkina Faso forward Bertrand Traore rendered Samatta a surplus requirement at Villa Park, hence, he was loaned to Fenerbahce.

Samatta has made 56 appearances for Tanzania scoring 20 goals and providing nine assists. He also captained them to their first Africa Cup of Nations finals in 39 years.
