Uganda national team head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic was on Tuesday found guilty of two counts of sexual assault.
The 52-year-old Serbian gaffer was handed a jail term of three years, which is suspended for five years, by the Gqeberha Regional Court in South Africa.
According to National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) one of the incident took place in 2020 where Sredojevic allegedly assaulted a 39-year-old woman who was serving him coffee.
“For count one, he was sentenced to three years imprisonment which was wholly suspended for five years on condition that he does not again contravene section 5(2) of the Sexual offenses Act. This section entails sexual assault in the form of inspiring a belief unto the complainant that he or she will immediately be sexually assaulted,” read NPA statement in part.
“For count two, Sredojević was also sentenced to three years imprisonment which was wholly suspended for five years on condition that he does not again contravene section 5(1) of the Sexual Offences Act. This section entails sexual assault in the form of touching a complainant.”
Meanwhile, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), has stated that Micho is going to remain as Cranes coach as he has been granted leave by the court to appeal the decision.
“The Uganda Cranes coach Milutin Sredojevic asked FUFA for permission to attend to a private matter in South Africa,” reads FUFA statement.
“We have this afternoon received information that the private matter has been concluded for now.The coach will come back to resume his duties accordingly.”
