Mochudi Centre Chiefs are pushing hard to return to the forefront of Botswana football and are believed to be interested in acquiring top-flight status of Gilport Lions.

The Magosi, as they are fondly called, have recently been linked with the possibility of buying out cash-strapped Security Systems, but parties on both ends have since denied such rumours.

Ducor Sports has since gathered information that the Magosi are now knocking on the doors of Portia Gilika with regards to trading status with the Lions.

At this stage, it is unclear whether Gilika is able to sell, given his commitments with the Lobatse Stadium management, but sources have revealed that there is intent from Chiefs’ side.

Lions have been known to have financial troubles of their own, with players regularly facing uncertainty over their salaries while some get paid late or in instalments.

Should all go accordingly, it is thought that the deal would see a direct swap of the two teams, with the Chiefs going down to the First Division.

Club representatives have been unavailable for comment, but their official Facebook account has also been toying with the possibility of returning to the Botswana Premier League.

Chiefs dropped out of the Premiership in the 2018/2019 campaign due to poor administration at board level, but the new administration keen to return to the topflight league.

Since the team was founded in 1972 it has been the second most successful team in Botswana.
