Horoya Athletic Club have confirmed e much-awaited signing of Sierra Leonean national goalkeeper Mohamed Kamara from East End Lions.
Highly-rated Kamara had signed an option to extend his contract in January for a year to the end of the 2022-23 season with East End Lions‚ but the Guinean champions have clearly come in with the right offer to pry the keeper from the Sierra Leone giants.
“Sierra Leonean sensation of AFCON 2021, Mohamed Kamara, goalkeeper, has signed up for Horoya Athletic Club for two years,” Horoya said in a statement as translated from French.
“Propelled to the forefront of the continental scene after his remarkable performances against Algeria (Man of the Match) and Côte d’Ivoire (Franck Kessié’s penalty save) during CAN 2021 in Cameroon, Mohamed Kamara was playing until then at the East End Lions FC, a Sierra Leonean club based in the capital Freetown.”
Kamara produced a world-class performance at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon where he made impressive saves in the tournament.
Born in Kambia,in the Northern Province of Sierra Leone which is near its border with Guinea, the youngster started his career FC Johansen, the Freetown based club that is owned by Isha Tejan-Cole Johansen.
In 2019, he switched allegiances and joined East End Lions, arguably the most successful football club in Sierra Leone league history.
He earned his first international cap in an international friendly against Liberia on July 22, 2018 and kept a clean sheet.
