Dubai International Basketball Championship defending champions A.S. Sale of Morocco will be looking to defend their title in Dubai when they touch down on the court for the 29th edition of the tournament.
The Moroccan side won the last edition of the tournament on February 25, 2017 after beating Al Riyadi of Lebanon 84-73 in Dubai.
They are also entering the competition as champions of the FIBA Africa Championship Cup. A.S. Sale recently emerged FIBA African champions after beating ES Rades 77-69 in the Final at Salle Omnisports of Rades, Tunisia.
The team is currently in Dubai, United Arab Emirates along with E.S. Rades and E.S. Sahel both of Tunisia and Al Nasr Libya for the tournament.
The four African clubs will compete against seven Asian clubs for the championship. The championship is organized annually by the UAE Basketball Association with the vision to promote sportsmanship and teamwork.
Participating Asian teams include: Al Riyadi of Lebanon, UAE National Team, 2016 winners Sagesse of Lebanon, Ball Above All UAE, Homenetmen of Lebanon and San Beda Red Lions to represent the Philippines.
E.S. Rades and Al Nasr will kick off day-two January 19, 2018 of the tournament when they clash against each other before E.S. Sahel and A.S. Sale hit he court for the day’s second encounter.
Later during the competition, eight teams will advance to the quarter final after five rounds of matches with four eventually securing a slot in the semifinals. The tournament runs from today January 18 to Friday, January 26, 2018.
