Morocco Face Uphill Task As They Face Belgium

Morocco is under massive pressure to get a win and will hope to do so when they face Belgium in their second 2022 FIFA World Cup, Group F match on Sunday.

The Atlas Lions failed to hit the right gear when they met Croatia on Wednesday and disappointingly secured a point, in a match that many expected Morocco to secure maximum points.

Walid Regragui’s men were held to a 0-0 draw to Croatians and will now desperately push for a surprise win to regain their confidence.

The North Africans will meet a strong Belgian side that is rejoicing from a 1-0 win over Canada in their group opening encounter.

Morocco now occupies the third spot in the group with one point and will want to avoid an early exit at this year’s edition.

The Atlas Lions are expected to field three players who were born in Belgium including Selim Amallah, who started against Croatia and plays his club football for Standard Liege.

Belgium occupies the top position on the group log as they were victorious in the opening encounter having defeated Canada courtesy of Michy Batshuayi’s goal on Wednesday.

The Belgians lead the group standings with three points from the victory and will hope to stun the Moroccans to book a spot in the knockout stages.

Morocco won their last meeting with Belgium in all competitions, winning 4-1 in a friendly back in March 2008. They had lost their two games against the Belgians before this.

Belgium have never lost three previous Fifa World Cup match against an African nation, with all of these meetings coming in the group stage of the competition.

The match will be staged at Al Thumama Stadium in Doha at 15:00 (CAT) on Sunday.
