In preparation for the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup, Morocco, one of Africa’s representatives, will play two friendly matches against the Czech Republic and Romania in April, the Moroccan Royal Football Federation (FRMF).
Australia and New Zealand will host the 2023 Women’s World Cup between July 20 and August 20.
The first friendly game, against the Czech national team, will take place on April 6 in Prague, and the second, against Romania, will take place on April 11 in Bucharest, the Balkan nation’s capital.
The Atlas Lionesses defeated Botswana in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) quarterfinals to secure their first-ever qualification for the international competition.
The Moroccan team put on an impressive show at WAFCON, making it to the championship game for the first time before falling to South Africa 2-1.
Head Coach Reynald Pedros has called up 25 players to take part in the team’s two friendly games.
The Atlas Lionesses will play some of the best teams in the world at the World Cup, so Coach Pedros expressed the hope that the exhibition games will demonstrate their readiness to compete.
“The fact that we are in the final in this competition shows how much we have as a team, quality-wise. I think next year preparing for the world cup will be massive,” he said.
