Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane remains confident that his side can qualify to knockout stages of the CAF Champions League despite Tuesday’s 1-0 loss to Simba.
The Egyptians lost in Tanzania to suffer their first defeat for coach Mosimane to an African team since he joined the Red Devils five months ago.
Al Ahly have three points taken from their opening game and lied third on Group A, with Simba topping the group with six points after two round of matches.
“We still have four remaining games in the group stage, and we will fight to reach the next round,” Mosimane was quoted as saying by Ahly’s official website after the game.
“We aimed to dominate the possession in today’s game, but we missed several chances in the first half, and in these games, we have to take all of our chances.”
Simba took advantage of playing at home in front of their fans and scored their winning goal in the 31st minute by Luís Miquissone.
Mosimane questioned the decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) that allowed 30,000 fans to access the Stadium despite the coronavirus pandemic.
“We have to be professional after any loss, but the game could be held in better circumstances,” the South African boss added.
“I am a professional coach and I have no comments on the fans’ attendance as it was the CAF’s decision, but what happened today did not happen in any place in the world.”
Al Ahly host AS Vita on March 5before traveling to Sudan three weeks later to face Al Merreikh, who are at the bottom of the group.
