Following their painful exit from the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday evening, disappointed fans of Daring Club Motema Pembe who attended the match at Stade de Martyrs in Kinshasa could not hold their frustrations but to storm the post-match press conference.
The disappointed supporters stormed the press room and efforts by the few club stewards and policemen to bar them from entering the room proved futile as they tried to assault ESAE coach Richard Bio.
They insulted the coach saying that they wanted to teach him a lesson to avenge their coach Isaac Ngata, who was allegedly attacked in Lusaka in the match against Zanaco.
The incident happened despite their team winning 1-0 against the Beninese side, with Vinny Komba scoring the goal early in the third minute of the match.
“I am amazed. In my entire career, I have never experienced such a situation. It traumatized me because I can’t understand the behaviour of these supporters, “said Bio in an interview with the club portal.
At some point, Motema Pembe coach had to intervene to calm the fans as the CAF Media Officer was forced to cut short the conference and demanded for the removal of the intruders.
RS Berkane advanced to the knockout stages as they topped the group with 11 points, one more than Zanaco who finished second on a head to head basis with DR Congo’s Motema Pembe, also on 10 points.
Last weekend Zanaco scored an injury-time winner to defeat Motema Pembe 2-1 in Lusaka, and guarantee an aggregate 3-2 advantage that proved to be crucial after both sides finished on 10 points. ESAE trailed the group with a lone point.
