Senegalese striker Moussa Konate scored a double to help struggling Amiems secure a crucial draw against League 1 champions Paris Saint Germain at the Stade de la Licorne on Friday night.
The 25-year-old striker led the lowly placed side to a memorable come back on both occasions cancelling out goals from Edison Cavani and youngster Christopher Nkunku ensuring the side survive relegation this season.
PSG’s Ligue 1 top scorer Cavani struck his 28th goal of the season after 26 minutes when he latched on to Javier Pastore’s pass and slid the ball past keeper Regis Gurtner in the Amiems goal.
Three minutes into the second half struggling Amiems got off the mark after Konate took advantage of a defensive lapse to beat Areola with a shot from close range to level the score.
Nkunku put Unai Emery’s visitors back in front after 64 minutes scoring from the edge of the area thanks to a Thiago Motta’s pass but Konate once again leveled the score after a wonderful counter-attack 10 minutes before the end with his 12th goal of the season.
Konate found space inside the box again and rolled a tame shot towards goal, to make it twelve goals for the Senegalese this season.
PSG now have 92 points from 36 games and can still beat their record of 96 points if they win the remaining two games. The draw however means that they have once again failed to hit their target of 100 points.
Amiens, who were promoted to the top flight for the first time last year, are now 10 points clear of the relegation zone with three matches remaining meaning they have secured their place in the league one next season.
In League 2, Nimes kicked off their promotion party early after a 4-0 win over GFC Ajaccio. The side who last played in the top flight in 1992/93 ended a 25-year wait for promotion.
