Nabil Bentaleb has sent a farewell message to Schalke 04 and their supporters after parting ways with the club on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old spent four years with Schalke after joining the club on an initial loan deal from Tottenham Hotspurs in 2016 before sealing a permanent contract with the side in February 2017.
During his lengthy stint with Schalke, Bentaleb has managed to score 10 goals and assists a further two from 89 appearances across all competitions during his stint with the former Bundesliga outfit.
The Algerian international endured a nightmare spell after his return from Newcastle and just made only 10 appearances having been frozen out in the early stages of the season.
In a media statement addressed to the club and its supporters, Bentaleb confirms that his time with the club has come to an end as he looks to take up a new adventure.
“What a journey , I had wonderful moments here,”Bentaleb statement reads in part.
“ I want to thank all the Schalke fans who made me feel home and supported me during these five years in the good and bad times.
“I wish you all the best for the future.”
The midfielder had been a key player in his first three years with Schalke after joining from Spurs in 2016.
Bentaleb scored at least three league goals in each campaign – including a sensational strike to claim the Bundesliga’s 2016/17 Goal of the Season.
He returned to England at the start of the 2019/20 campaign as he joined Newcastle United with a view to a permanent deal before a return to the mother club.
Latest reports indicate that Bentaleb could be headed to England with Burnley interested with his services.
If signed, the France-born star would at least provide some quality from the bench and his experience could prove vital to a young group of players.
