Naby Keita’s Family Home Attacked by Angry Fans

Angry fans attacked the family house of Guinea and Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita at the weekend over his unimpressive performance at the ongoing 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Angry fans attacked the family house of Guinea and Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita at the weekend over his unimpressive performance at the ongoing 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The attackers are said to be angered by Keita’s recent spate of injuries which they blamed on the use of black magic by one of his relatives.

Keita’s close family members were inside the house located in Coleah, which is one of Conakry’s upmarket neighbourhoods when several motor-cycle riders stopped and threw stones at the house on Friday evening.

According to reports, one of the family members who requested anonymity said that that a number of windows were shattered including those of the player’s room.

“We sent a team of policemen to a house at Coleah in Conakry to restore calm after some youths attempted acts of riotous conduct in a house believed to be the family home of footballer Naby Keita,” a police source told reporters.

A local vigilante had tried to intervene to push back the attackers, but he was pelted with rocks by fans.

Guinea press said that Keita has strongly condemned that attack and thanked the police for the quick intervention.

Keita was re-injured after enduring many tackles during his team’s 1-0 loss to Nigeria in their second Group B match played at Alexandria Stadium forcing coach Paul Put to replace the box-to-box midfielder with Lass Bangoura in the 70th minute.

On Thursday, the 24-year-old underwent several medical examinations that revealed pains in his shin and thigh region.

It is reported that Keita’s club Liverpool has already sent a plane that will fly the star to London for further medical examinations and it is rumoured that he won’t make a return to AFCON.

Guinea ended their group matches on Sunday to finish third on the log and are now hoping to be one of the best four finishers for them to reach the Africa Cup of Nations last 16.
