Ndikumana Wins Award in Kenya

Sofapaka goalkeeper Justin Ndikumana has been named March Kenyan Premier League player of the month at an award ceremony held on Tuesday at the team’s training ground in Nairobi.

Sofapaka goalkeeper Justin Ndikumana has been named March Kenyan Premier League player of the month at an award ceremony held on Tuesday at the team’s training ground in Nairobi.

The Burundi international trounced the likes of KCB defender Bethwel Warambo, Ulinzi Stars forward Enosh Ochieng and and Kariobangi Sharks attacker Eric Kapaito to scoop the March 2019 gong following a series of heroics for Batoto Ba Mungu.

He becomes the second goalkeeper to win the award since its inception five years ago. Gabriel Andika became the first goalkeeper to be crowned back in 2015 while he turned out for Western Stima.

The custodian who joined Batoto Ba Mungu last November kept three clean sheets out of four matches played in March and saved a crucial penalty against Chemelil Sugar that secured vital points for the 2009 champions.

“I have been praying that I become the winner this month because I played well and everybody was talking about me. I’m glad I caught the panel’s eyes and so I can look forward to better days,” he said.

“Such awards boost my confidence and the team at large. I want to thank the entire squad, not just the defense that helped me keep the clean sheets. I feel like I can face any opponent and stand tall in goal and prevent them from scoring,” he concluded.

The award comes with a reward of Ksh 100,000 (1000 USD), a trophy and a 49 inch television. He becomes the second Sofapaka player to bag the award after Umaru Kasumba who won it in February.
