DR Congo heavyweights AS Vita Club yesterday climbed to the top of Group A sending Raja Casablanca of Morocco packing with a 2-0 win.
In what was game-five of the Total CAF Confederation Cup, it took nine minutes for the hosts to score two goals via Fabrice Ngoma and Jean-Marc Makusu.
24-year-old Ngoma first rifled in the opener in the 50th minute with a left-footer which beat goalkeeper Massaud, having cut in from the left side of the box.
The Green Eagles attempted to respond immediately but failed to make any meaningful breakthrough into the penalty area of the Dolphins.
Just when they were about to stamp their authority in midfield, the Congolese hit again from a counter-attack.
Mukusu received a pass to cut into the danger area, leaving his marker missing his footing before poking in beyond the netminder’s reach for the game’s second and final goal.
The Dolphins now headline Group A with ten points out from three wins and a draw in five games, while Raja slipped to second place with eight points.
Third on the log is Ivory Coast’s ASEC Mimosas who beat bottom-placed Aduana Stars from Ghana.
Gbagnon Badie first broke the deadlock via the spot-kick after just 24 minutes, before Braciano Ta Bi doubled the lead eleven minutes later to wrap up a 2-0 win, accumulating a combined six points.
Aduana now faces Raja who need just a draw in their next schedule on August 29th to be assured of sailing to the next round.
