Kenyan international Nicholas Kipkirui has penned an emotional farewell message to Gor Mahia after his exit was confirmed on Wednesday.
The 24-year old joined Gor Mahia from Zoo Kericho in August 2018 under former coach Hasaan Oktay and went on to write a remarkable chapter in his career after winning the league title in 2018, 2018/2019 and in 2020 as well as the KPL Super Cup.
“After a successful and bitter-sweet two and a half year journey, my time at Gor Mahia has come to an end,” he wrote on social media. “It was not an easy decision to make but it has been necessitated wholly by the need to make ends meet and take care of my family.
“I wish to thank everyone who helped me in one way or another during my stay at the club.
They include club Chairman Ambrose Rachier who signed me from Zoo Kericho plus coaches Hassan Oktay, Steve Polack and Vaz Pinto who have made me a better player.
“I also wish to appreciate my teammates who have supported and pushed me towards achieving my personal and team goals.
“And to the fans who supported me in very many ways, asante sana and God bless you all. I leave this great club as a league champion, national team player and with an experience of playing in continental matches.
“I will always be a K’Ogalo diehard and hope to come back one day to contribute to this great club in any capacity. I wish the club all the best in its assignments.”
Several publications have reported that the striker citied unpaid salaries as the chief reason to terminate his contract.
Kipkirui is the latest player to terminate his contract at the financially challenged club citing a breach of contract.
He is now linked with a move to another FKF Premier League side Nairobi City Stars having obtained a clearance from the federation to join any club of his choice.
The striker has curved a reputation on the local football scene as a consistent goal-scorer with his goals against AFC Leopards and in the CAF Confederation Cup versus Zamalek particularly standing out.
