Nigeria Coach Gernot Rohr Owed Eight Months Salary

Nigeria national team head coach Gernot Rohr has not been paid his wages by the Nigeria Football Federation for seven months, according to reports.

However, the 68-year-old German gaffer has not made an official complaint.

A source at Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) claims the situation will be resolved before the Super Eagles face Central African Republic in 2022 World Cup qualifier on Thursday.

Rohr was first appointed Super Eagles coach in August 2016 in a three years contract after Sunday Oliseh was sacked by the NFF.

He renewed his contract with Super Eagles on May 2020 and was tasked to qualifying Nigeria for the World Cup and winning the Nations Cup.

It is not the first time Nigerian coaches have been caught in the web of unpaid salaries.

The list of coaches who have gone without pay includes football greats Samson Siasia, Sunday Oliseh and the late Stephen Keshi.

It’s worth noting that Nigerian football governing body has also not paid outstanding bonuses to players as well as camp allowances.

Rohr has been successful as Super Eagles coach as he qualified for the 2018 World Cup in Russia where the three-time African champions failed to make it past the group stage.

He led them to a third place finish at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
