Nigeria FA Denies Plan To Sack Super Eagles Coach

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has denied reports it is planning to sack Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has denied reports it is planning to sack Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr.

The Super Eagles have gone four matches without a win, with the latest result being a goalless draw against lowly-ranked Sierra Leone in Free Town, four days after surprisingly being held to a 4-4 by the same opponent in the first leg in Benin City.

This sparked calls for the sacking of Rohr who have been at the helm of the three-time African champions for the past four years.

The rumours birthed reports that the NFF is on a ‘cleaning mission’, with the coaches of the Super Eagles, led by Rohr, to be shown the exit door.

But NFF president Amaju Pinnick has revealed that they have no plans to do away with the coaches of the Super Eagles and particularly Rohr.

“Nobody is happy about what happened against Sierra Leone in both matches,” Pinnick told reporters.

“But it is not enough to sack the coach because his team is still top of the Nations Cup group after four matches.

“His statistics speaks volume for him, so on what indexes do we want to sack him considering the contract recently signed by both parties.

Rohr signed a new contract with the Super Eagles in June and is expected to lead the three-time Africa Champions until 2022.

The Franco-German coach got the Super Eagles job in 2016 after also being fired by Burkina Faso and rejected by Guinea.

He won his first match as Eagles coach and has a record of 29 wins, 13 losses and 10 draws in 52 matches in charge of the Nigerian senior national team.
