Nigeria Sports Minister Sunday Dare has turned to Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr following their goalless draw against Sierra Leone in a 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
The draw on Tuesday was the second in two games after they were held 4-4 by John Keister’s men in the first outing of their meeting in Benin City.
Although the result was still enough to ensure the three-time African champions maintain their lead in Group L, it however, failed to confirm their qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations finals.
In reacting to the team dissimilar performance, Dare conveyed his feelings where he questioned the ability of coach Rohr.
[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””] “The performance of the Super Eagles from their last two matches calls into question the suitability and competences of technical adviser, Rohr. Nigerian football deserves better.”[/perfectpullquote]
“The needful will be done. Apologies to all football lovers,” Dare wrote.
His outburst against the notoriously difficult to please Nigerian football fans, who feel that lack of ideas from the bench contributed to the loss of four points, comes hot on the heels after his demand for patience with the technical bench.
Rohr signed a new contract with the Super Eagles in June and is expected to lead the three-time Africa Champions until 2022.
The Franco-German coach got the Super Eagles job in 2016 after also being fired by Burkina Faso and rejected by Guinea.
He won his first match as Eagles coach and has a record of 29 wins, 13 losses and 10 draws in 52 matches in charge of the Nigerian senior national team.
