Nigeria Striker Returns To Monaco After Loan Spell

Nigeria forward Henry Onyekuru is back to parent club AS Monaco after completing a loan spell at Turkish side Galatasaray.

Nigeria forward Henry Onyekuru is back to parent club AS Monaco after completing a loan spell at Turkish side Galatasaray.

The 23-year-old joined the Turkish champions on a six-month deal in January, and featured 11 times for Galatasaray this season, scoring once and with one assist.

Onyekuru was signed by Monaco from Everton in August last year in a five-year deal at a reported transfer fee amounting to £12.5 million ($15.1m).

He was sent on loan to Galatasaray after struggling for game time under former Monaco boss Leonard Jardim. However, the arrival of new coach Robert Moreno could help him re-launch his career at the club.

Born in Onitsha, Nigeria, Onyekuru started his football at the Aspire Academy aged 13 and spent five years at the Doha-based facility before joining Eupen.

In two seasons at the Belgian top-flight club, he scored 30 goals in 60 matches in all competitions.

In June 2017, English Premier League side, Everton landed his signature and immediately loaned him to Anderlecht.

After spending one season, he was loaned again to Turkish Super Lig side Galatasaray on a season-long loan, before being sold to Monaco.

The French side will now keep Onyekuru as new coach Moreno wants to build his team more around the successful speedster who has a total of 52 goals.
