Nimes End Interest In Emmanuel Adebayor

Olympique Nimes have decided against pursuing the interest in the ex-Togo international striker Emmanuel Adebayor.

Olympique Nimes have decided against pursuing their interest in the ex-Togo international striker Emmanuel Adebayor.

The 35-year-old forward was one of the players Nimes had identified as club manager Bernard Blaquart seeks to reshape his squad.

Now the French Ligue 1 strugglers are to turn their attention elsewhere in the search for other favourable attacking options.

Adebayor is a free agent after quitting Turkish club Kayseripor earlier last month.

It was thought Nimes had been prepared to offer in the region of €450,000 for the striker, who is now linked to a shock move to English Premier League side Aston Villa.

The southern-based club lies joint bottom of Ligue 1 alongside Toulouse, with both clubs collecting just 12 points and having a goal difference of minus 19 and minus 20 respectively.

Meanwhile, Nimes have acquired the services of Moroccan youngster Yassine Benrahou from Ligue 1 rivals Bordeaux n a short-term loan deal.

The 20-year-old now links up with Senegal’s Sidy Sarr and Togo’s Kevin Denkey at Stade des Costieres.

Nimes coach Bernard Blaquart hopes that he will acquire two strikers who can inspire the team’s attack in their fight to avoid relegation.

“There will not be six arrivals and six departures. You don’t build a team in winter… Adebayor? No… the journalists picked up this option but there are other more plausible ones. I am expecting a lot from this window. We are waiting for a striker or maybe two attackers. We already have Benrahou who has just arrived.”
