Former Malawi and Be Forward Wanderers captain Joseph Kamwendo has retired from playing, after an amazing 15 years.
Kamwendo, 33, had three spells at the Nomads, scoring 35 goals in 150 games winning several titles with the 2017 Malawi Super League champions.
He has retired to concentrate on his role as the technical assistant for Wanderers, a role that he took in June this year despite being a registered player with the team.
“I have thought hard and deep about my decision to leave the beautiful game and let me say it hasn’t been easy. It has been an emotional time for my family and I,” reads part of the statement posted on his official Facebook page.
“I appreciate the support that I have received so far and throughout my career, I’d love to say thank you to every one of you. It has been very humbling and something I will cherish for the rest of my life.

Getting just over 100 caps for the national team is no mean achievement. I have loved every minute I’ve spent on the football pitch.” [/perfectpullquote]
Kawendo played for some of the biggest teams in Africa such as Orlando Pirates (South Africa) and TP Mazembe (DRC), he also starred for Caps United (Zimbabwe) and twice at Clube Maculmana (Mozambique).
He also had a brief stint with FC Nordsjaellend in Denmark and remains the only foreigner so far to have won the Player of the Year in Zimbabwe.
Kamwendo earned his first cap in 2003 and was a key member for Flames squad that qualified for 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola for the first time in 26 years.
