Noussair Mazraoui: Morocco Defender Joins Bayern Munich

Morocco international defender Noussair Mazraoui has signed for Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

The 24-year-old, who is in the provisional Atlas Lions squad for the upcoming 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers, joins from Ajax on a free transfer.

He has signed a four-year deal with Bayern and becomes the first reinforcement arriving at the club ahead of next season.

“I had a good feeling right from the first talks and I’m happy to be moving to one of the biggest clubs in Europe,” Mazraoui told the Bayern Munich website.

“Bayern have just become German champions for the 10th time in a row and will also be among the contenders to win the Champions League again next year. I chose this club because I can win the biggest titles here.”

Bayern Munich’s chief executive Oliver Kahn hailed the Moroccan saying he will help the club in their quest for Champions League title.

“Noussair is the next building block as we continue to strengthen our team in a targeted way,” said the former Germany goalkeeper.

“We have big aims again for the new season, and players such as Noussair increase our options.

“We’re also looking forward to taking on the Champions League again with him and we want to celebrate a lot of successes together in the coming years.”

Mazraoui started his football journey at the Ajax academy in 2013 and made his first-team debut in 2018.

The right-back made a total of 137 competitive appearances for the Dutch record champions, scoring 10 goals.

Mazraoui has also scored twice in 12 appearances for the Moroccan national team since making his international debut back in 2018.
