Ocansey: Horoya Want To Make History In CAF Confederation Cup

Veteran captain Ocansey Mandela is confident Horoya AC will reach the CAF Confederation Cup final at the expense of Pyramids FC and write their own piece of history.

Veteran captain Ocansey Mandela is confident Horoya AC will reach the CAF Confederation Cup final at the expense of Pyramids FC and write their own piece of history.

The Guinean giants ended the run of Nigerian side Enyimba in the previous round with a 3-1 aggregate victory.

The first leg played in Aba ended 1-1 and the Guineans finished off the work at home with a comfortable 2-0 win in March 2020.

“This match against Pyramids is very important for me and for Horoya AC. We’ll go one hundred per cent or even two hundred per cent because this is a game in which we have to write our history,” said Mandela.

The 30-year-old Burkinabe is expected to lead his side’s attack line despite resuming training in September after being sidelined for eight months.

Mandela missed the group stages and the quarterfinals and made only 6 appearances with Horoya AC last season despite being the captain of the side.

“I was out of the field for a long time. I’m happy with my return and above all, I’m happy to be here for this semi-final which is very important for us,” he added.

Horoya are the hot favourites heading to the tie, with their vast experience on continental football tipping them to overcome a Pyramids scare.

However, Pyramids are expected to produce an energetic display in the single match set to be played on Tuesday 20 October at Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca.

The Egyptian side progressed to the last four after defeating Zambian giants Zanaco 3-1 on aggregate in a quarter-final tie in March 2020.

Horoya’s only success in the history of Africa interclub competitions dates back to 1978 when they won the African Cup Winners’ Cup.

The winner between Horoya and Pyramids will face either RS Berkane or Hassania Agadir in the final.

The final is set to be played at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in the capital city of Morocco, Rabat on October 25.
