OFFICIAL: Ibrahim Camara Sacked As Ivory Coast Coach

Ivory Coast have sacked Ibrahim Camara with five months left on his contract with the Elephants.

The federation confirmed his sacking on Thursday, ending weeks of speculation over the fate of the former Africa Sports d’Abidjan trainer.

Coach Camara was handling both the national team the Elephants as well as the Under-23 Olympic side.

It has emerged that he had refused to resign as coach following his dismal record with the national team.

He has managed just one win and one defeat as Elephants coach in the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Last week he fell out with the FIF after he failed to inform the federations about his preparations for the upcoming back-to-back qualifiers against Madagascar.

It is alleged that the coach abused FIF vice-president Sory Diabate and former FIF president special advisor Djedje Benjamin in a previous meeting that was held last Thursday.

Camara was appointed in July 2018 to replace Marc Wilmots following the Belgian’s failure to secure World Cup qualification.

His aim was to lead Ivory Coast to 2019 Africa Cup of Nations which he easily achieved before crashing out in the quarterfinals.

Camara leaves the Elephants in the third place in Group K of the qualifying matches for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, with three points, four points adrift of leaders Madagascar.
