Okwi To Captain Uganda Against South Africa

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) confirmed that Emmanuel Okwi will captain Uganda Cranes in an international friendly match against South Africa.

The clash is set for Orlando Stadium on 10 June from 18h00 Central African Time.

Okwi, arguably Uganda’s most reliable player at the moment has been handed the captain’s armband following the retirement of Denis Onyango.

The 28-year-old attacker, Okwi, who’s previously featured for Uganda Premier League side SC Villa is among the most experienced players in the squad with 82 caps and 26 goals.

Despite Okwi’s presence, Uganda Cranes will be missing a number of key players including Sudan-based Salim Jamal Magoola, Nico Wakiro Wadada who plies his trade in Tanzania, plus Faruku Miya who turns for Turkish side Konyaspor.

South Africa squad has some star-studded names in their line-up including Brighton & Hove Albion’s Pacy Tau and Keagan Dolly who plies his trade in France at Montpellier.

Uganda will start preparation for the friendly clash on Monday morning May 31, 2021 at MTN Stadium and they will camp at Cranes Paradise Hotel in Kisaasi.
