Uganda Cranes captain Dennis Onyango has urged fans to rally behind the team when they take on Malawi in the second round of 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Sunday.
The Cranes will host Flames at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Kampala as they seek to get their first win of Group B after holding Burkina Faso to a goalless draw on match day one.
Ahead of the match, the South Africa-based goal minder says the players will do their best on the pitch and has called fans to rally behind the team.
“We as players are hungry for success and to perform…we managed a point away from Burkina Faso which is a great plus. Fans should turn out in numbers and we promise that we will deliver on the pitch,” he said.
Cranes will be taking into the field without the services of their two dependable players Lumala Abdu and Alexis Bakka, who were part of the team which registered a goalless draw with Burkina Faso on Wednesday in Ouagadougou.
With the duo missing, Uganda’s coach could field either Luwagga Kizito or Allan Kyambadde while Vipers SC’s striker Fahad Bayo could fill Bakka’s place.
Malawi top the Group B with three points after beating South Sudan 1-0 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre last Wednesday.
