South Africa Premier Soccer League giants Orlando Pirates have parted ways with former Bafana Bafana right-back Asavela Mbekile on a mutual agreement, the club has confirmed.

The 33-year-old joined Pirates at the start of the 2018 season following a successful spell at Mamelodi Sundowns where he made 17 appearances for the Sea Robbers.

Mbekile, who won four caps for South Africa, requested the termination of his contract in order to find more regular football elsewhere.

“Orlando Pirates can confirm the amicable parting of ways with Asavela Mbekile following a meeting between both parties earlier today‚” said the club in a statement on Thursday.

Mbekile also played for Ikapa Sporting‚ FC Cape Town Moroka Swallows and Lamontville Golden Arrows before joining the Buccaneers.

Before the Christmas break, Mbekile was expected to be among the new faces to be unveiled by Chippa United, but the deal fell through after both parties failed to reach an agreement.
