Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) vice-President Fred Pappoe has stated his ambition to go for the federation presidency in the coming polls.
Papoe, who is a board member of the second-tier club, Great Olympics, has decided to join the already crowded race after ‘extensive consultations and deliberations with key stakeholders whose sole intention is to put the interest of Ghana first.’
“We all love the game of football, I have been a football person for all these years. Our football has gone where it didn’t need to, but I believe it can come back to where it should be, and where we want it to be beyond that,” Pappoe said in an interview with Joy Sports.

“And I believe if I’m elected I can make a big difference to the crusade we have embarked on.”
Pappoe served in several capacities including chairman of the Black Stars management committee apart from serving as deputy to former GFA president Kwesi Appiah during his first term.
He joins the growing list of other candidates, who have shown interest in the top seat including George Afriyie, Kurt Okraku, Nana Yaw Amponsah, and Wilfred Ose.
The others are Kudjoe Fianoo, Alhaji Karim Grunzah and Alhaji Ali Raji.
The Ghanaian FA is currently being run by a normalization committee that has until the end of March to complete its work by instituting the necessary reforms and ensure that the GFA is ready for the election of substantive members of the executive committee.
This follows the suspension of football and its related activities in June 2018 after a documentary by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas that exposed bribery and corruption in the administration of football in Ghana.
