A few weeks before the beginning of the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN), Hafia AC striker Mohamed Latige Camara’s disparity in his date of birth is giving coach Kanfory Bangoura a major headache.
Camara has been forced to pull out of the Syli Nationale squad that is currently training at September 28 Stadium in Conakry, owing to a passport problem.
A source close to the player says the date of birth on Camara’s player license is different from what is indicated on his birth certificate and on his international passport.
By press time, the Guinea Football Federation (Feguifoot) officials, were trying to secure a new passport for the player, with word going round that coach Bangoura is set to name a replacement.
“We are being tossed around by immigration officials,” source at Guinea FA tells Ducor Sports.
“Camara is one the players for the future. He will miss a lot if he doesn’t travel with the team.”
The absence of Camara will be a huge blow for Syli Nationale’s hope for an improved performance after failing to win the title in all its last three editions they have participated in.
Guinea will face Namibia, Tanzania and Zambia in Group D of the competition, set to take place in Cameroon from April 4-25 this year.
The Syli Nationale qualified for CHAN after ejecting Senegal at the preliminary stage. CHAN is a competition exclusively for players in the country’s local leagues.
