Patrice Carteron Resigns as Zamalek Head Coach

Frenchman Patrice Carteron has quit as the coach of Egyptian Premier League giants Zamalek SC just few weeks before African Champions League semi-final clash against Morocco’s Raja Casablanca

According to the club’s official television channel, Zamalek TV, the 50-year-old has requested the White Knights to release his contract which had tied him to the club until the middle of next year.

Carteron arrived at the White Knights as the successor to Milutin Sredojević, who parted ways with the Cairo giants after an indifferent run of form in December.

The announcement comes as a shocker as Carteron has already paid his USD 250,000-release clause citing personal reasons for his sudden departure from the Egyptian champions.

Carteron leaves the club after a perfect record where he lost only three matches, winning 19 in 31 games that he was in-charge.

He helped the White Knights win the African and Egyptian Super Cups in February thus  gaining huge popularity across the continent.

Egyptian football was not new for the Frenchman who has coached Wadi Degla and Al Ahly before, thus speculations are he will still remain to join Pyramids.

He is also one of the most respected coaches in Africa, having also coached Raja Casablanca and TP Mazembe.

In his stint as coach of Mali national team, Carteron steered the Eagles to third place at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa‚ beating Bafana Bafana in the semi-finals.

Zamalek are currently second on the Egyptian league table with 55 points, 17 points behind leaders Ahly who need two points from the remaining matches to retain the title.
