Patrick Matasi: St George Goalkeeper Leaves Ethiopia Premier League Side

Kenya international goalkeeper Patrick Matasi has confirmed his departure from Ethiopia Premier League side St George.

The 33-year-old has taken to his social media pages to confirm his exit from the Addis-Ababa side pending his return to Kenyan Premier League champions Tusker FC.

In his message on Twitter, Matasi wrote: “I would like to appreciate the Saint George SA fraternity for giving me the opportunity to work with and for them since 2018.

“41 matches and 22 clean sheets later, the time has come for me to say goodbye to the club that I so loyally served. I leave Ethiopia with more experience, not just in the game but in life in general.

“I leave Ethiopia with more experience, not just in the game but in life in general. Special thanks to all the fans and my teammates for the immense support and all the best in the future”

Matasi started his professional career in Kenya with now defunct West Kenya Sugar FC in 2010, and then moved to AFC Leopards in 2011.

He won the FKFCup with Leopards in 2013 and, after falling out of favour at Ingwe, he left the club for Posta Rangers in December 2014.

He left Rangers in June 2018 and joined Tusker FC where he spent six months before being snapped up by St George where he replaced Ugandan custodian Robert Odongkara.

Matasi made his international debut for Kenya in 2017 where he featured in Harambee Stars’ successful in that year’s Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup campaign.

He was also in goal during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations finals matches against Senegal, Algeria and Tanzania.
