Patrick Mboma Tipped as Next Cameroon Coach

Former Cameroon international Patrick Mboma has emerged as a front runner to replace Clarence Seedorf as Indomitable Lions head coach, at least in the interim.

Former Cameroon international Patrick Mboma has emerged as a front runner to replace Clarence Seedorf as the Indomitable Lions head coach, at least in the interim.

Seedorf was sacked last month following the Lions’ disappointing outing at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) where they were knocked out by Nigeria.

Mboma is reported has reached an agreement after holding fruitful talks with Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) and will be unveiled to the fans in the coming days.

The reports further suggest he will be joined in the technical bench by former Cameroon Olympic team coach Martin Mpille.

Mboma, who enjoys the support of the country’s presidency, played a vital role in Cameroon’s Africa Cup of Nations victories in 2000 and 2002, topping it off with an African Footballer of the Year award.

Until his imminent appointment, Mboma served as sports analyst with a French international channel Canal Plus Afrique.

However, he has never managed any standard football team and critics suggest the former Paris Saint Germain and Parma forward lacks the needed experience to revive Cameroon’s lethargic football.

Other coaches named as possible successors to Seedorf are Carlos Queiroz, the former Manchester United assistant coach, former France coach Raymond Domenech and German World Cup winner Lothar Matthaeus.
