Peter Maker: Experienced Defender Joins Zesco On A Two-Year Deal

Zambia Super League giants Zesco United have confirmed the signing of South Sudanese defender Peter Maker Manyang on a two-year-deal.

Maker joins from Juba-based side Amarat United where he registered five goals and seven assists in 31 appearances.

“Zesco United is a big football club and a competitive team at continental level. I played against them in 2016 when they reached the CAF Champions League semi-finals,” Maker told the club website.

“ I am extremely delighted to join the club. I have also been an ardent follower of the Zambian game and am aware of the club’s success at domestic level.

“I want to make an impact here and contribute to the growth of the team by winning trophies. I have settled in very well. The players have been very friendly and am looking forward to working with everyone.”

The 27-year-old previously plied his trade with Wau-based outfit Al Ghazal leaving the club with seven goals in 30 appearances.

Maker has been one of the hottest prospects in Amarat team in the past two seasons and has constantly been linked with a move away from the club.

Last year, it was reported that he had agreed to join Serbian second-tier side FK Buducnost only for the deal to fall through.

Apart from FK Buducnost, Kenyan Premier League side Tusker FC were interested in his services but a deal could not be reached between the two clubs.

Maker has risen through the ranks of the South Sudan football where he has featured for the national team since 2018 and is currently the team captain, gathering 16 caps.

He made his international debut in September 2018 during a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Mali where the Bright Stars lost 3-0.
