Peter Thiong’o Set To Leave Kakamega Homeboyz

Kakamega Homeboyz look set to lose Peter Thiong’o, the 20-year-old midfielder who has been linked with some of the leading clubs in the Kenyan Premier League.

Homeboyz have offered the youngster a new long-term deal but he is expected to move on, according to reports.

The Nakuru-born midfielder, who has most recently been linked with Wazito, hasn’t signed for anyone else yet but Homeboyz are bracing themselves to lose a player they have fought hard to keep.

Homeboyz coach Nicholas Muyoti has spoken to the player, who was in prolific form for the team in the recently cancelled season, in an effort to make him stay at the club.

Thiong’o’s efforts this past season included 8 goals in 15 appearances before lockdown struck. He was a match-winner in several occasions as Homeboyz settled for respectable second position on the table.

Thiong’o featured for several clubs including Nakuru All Stars FC and St. Joseph FC in the second division FKF National Super League (NSL) before signing for Homeboyz two seasons ago.

For some time, the midfielder has been linked with an exit from the Kakamega-based outfit, with the Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards said to be keen on his services at some stage.

According to sources close to Thiong’o, Tanzanian moneybags Azam have emerged as the latest club to show interest in the midfielder and are set to make an enticing offer for the midfielder services.

“There is a great possibility that he might leave now,” a source told Ducor Sports.

“Homeboyz has been made aware of the offers: one of them includes the exchange of two players as part of the deal.”

Thiong’o helped his current club to a second-place finish on the KPL log, seven points shy of champions Gor Mahia.
