Pitso Mosimane Touted For Iraq Coaching Job

Former Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has been linked with talks with Iraq soccer officials about taking over country’s national team.

According to our source in Baghdad, Mosimane, who resigned as Red Eagles coach six weeks ago, met with officials on Sunday at a posh hotel in Istanbul, Turkey.

“They have met, I know that much, but I don’t know exactly what those discussions were about. I assume they were about the Iraq national team,” the source said.

Several high-profile coaches have been linked with the Lions of Mesopotamia job including Portuguese mentor Antonio Conceicao, who coached the Cameroon national team, and ex-France national team Bernard Cosoni .

Iraq job is currently held by Abdul Ghani who was provisionally suspended in April following the national football team’s poor performance in AFC Asian Qualifiers.

Mosimane’s first national team coaching job was with South Africa in 2010 but failed to qualify the country for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations after playing to a draw in final qualifier against Sierra Leone.

Despite the setback, Mosimane has since emerged as one of the best coaches in Africa having won three  African Champions League titles, two CAF Super Cups with Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly.

The 2016 Caf Coach of the Year currently holds a UEFA A and UEFA B License, and he was recently completed his UEFA Pro license course.
