Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane says his side will need to win both of their remaining two Group A games in the CAF Champions League if they are to advance to the quarterfinals.
The record Africa champions head into final two rounds of group stage matches placed second in Group A on four points, with South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns (10 points) ahead of them.
The Red Eagles will next face El Merreik in Cairo on March 18, before finishing the group phase with a home clash against Al Hilal two weeks later.
“We got two games to play. We should stay where we are and we must win the two games. The two games are in Cairo and we have no excuse,” Ibenge said after match against Mamelodi Sundowns.
[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]“We had this situation before as last year we lost to Simba and drew against Vita Club. We lost so many points in the group stage, but we managed to qualify and you know how the story ended.”[/perfectpullquote]
Al Ahly lost their matchday four game by a solitary goal to Mamelodi Sundowns away in Johannesburg, and they will need to bounce back from the damaging defeat.
The game against Sundowns witnessed full of drama hours before kick-off as Al Ahly’s bus was denied access to the stadium by their opponents’ fans.
The Red Devils management have since filed a complaint to the match commissioner following the incidences that happened before the match.
