Police Arrest Kenya FA CEO Barry Otieno

Detectives from Directorate of Criminal Investigations on Saturday November, 13, pounced on Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Chief Executive Officer Barry Otieno for questioning, according to reports.

The alleged arrest comes barely a day after FKF President Nick Mwendwa was placed in police custody for grilling over the alleged misappropriation of Sh550 million (USD 50million)

Otieno was immediately taken to Gigiri Police Station where grilled and spend the weekend.

He will be taken to court on Monday together with his boss Nick Mwendwa where a miscellaneous application will be made to allow the DCI investigate alleged embezzlement of public funds.

Otieno arrests come a day after DCI officers said they will also summon him to shed light into the investigations.

On Tuesday, Kenyan government through Cabinet Secretary for Sports Amina Mohamed constituted a caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of the federation for a period of six months.

Meanwhile, World governing body FIFA has already threatened to ban Kenya from all football activities if Amina does not rescind the decision.

Otieno was fished to join FKF in 2016 from the Kenya News Agency, Nairobi with Mwendwa handing him the Communications Manager role at Kandanda House.

A journalist by profession, Otieno was in 2018 promoted to Communications and Marketing Manager before rising to become Chief Executive Officer in 2019.
