South Africa Premier Soccer League outfit Polokwane City are close to signing Ugandan international Juma Balinya.
The 27-year-old frontman is currently on the books of Gor Mahia having joined the Kenyan Premier League record champions in January 2020.
Balinya has emerged as a top target for the Rise and Shine, who are believed to facing strong competition from Ethiopian giants St.George in the race for his signature.
According to a reliable source, talks regarding the player’s potential move to Polokwane have entered an advanced stage between some of the parties, though the ongoing Coronavirus interruptions might cause some delay.
“There has been great progress in the talks for a potential move for the player. It is in all likelihood that he will move at the end of the season,” said the source.
Recent reports indicate that Balinya has blessings to make a move as a free agent, as his mother club K’Ogalo have given players right to leave as they are in a difficult financial situation.
Gor Mahia are experiencing financial problems given they lost their main sponsor before the current season began.
Previously, Balinya played for Tanzania giants Yanga before he terminated his two-year contract due to non-payment of salary, the same situation that he is facing at his current club.
Apart from Yanga, Balinya has also played for Uganda Police FC, Vipers SC and Lweza FC in his home country.
Should he be signed, Balinya will have to complete with highly-rated Malawian marksman Khuda Muyaba to earn a place in the Rise and Shine striking role.
