Uganda representatives in CAF Confederation Cup, Proline FC, have been accused of tapping up an underage player and could face a transfer ban if found guilty.
The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) is set to investigate Proline FC’s signing of teenager Ivan Bogere last year.
The youngster’s guardian has complained to FUFA that the deal was in breach of its regulations in relation to signing youth players, who can only be approached after they have turned 16.
Proline are said to have tapped Bogere when he was 15 years old and now risk a ban for flagrant breach of Uganda Premier League’s rules on the transfer of minors.
Bogere’s mother is quoted by one of the leading radio stations saying: “I am angry because Proline came after my son, I said no and they took him anyway. That’s not good behaviour.”
Ducor Sports understands that the player’s family has contacted a lawyer and they have already sent a notice to Proline demanding USD 3,000 to offset all expenses, costs and damages for the embarrassment, inconvenience and psychological torture inflicted to the player.
In his first season at the club, Bogere netted 14 times, goals that assisted the side a promotion to the Uganda Premier League after one season in the lower leagues.
In his continental debut, the forward scored a hat-trick as Proline eliminated Masters Security 3-0 in the CAF Confederations Cup Preliminary round qualifier, before bagging a brace as they progressed past AS Kigali in the first-round qualifier.
If found guilty, FUFA has the power to impose sanctions – the main one being a transfer ban.
