Young inspiring Kenyan footballer Jeremiah Wanjala is seeking assistance from friends and fans in order to cater for medical expenses at a local hospital.
The 26-year-old, who turns for Kenyan Premier League side Nzoia Sugar, is currently admitted at Kakamega General and Referral Hospital where he is battling a mysterious disease that might end his footballing career.
The yet-to-be diagnosed condition has left him struggling financially since January and with no support from his club, it has been virtually tough for his family to raise the medical funds needed for scans.
According to People Sport, Wanjala’s elder brother, Wycliffe Wanjala, the former Kakamega Homeboyz winger started to complain of headache, loss of appetite before being taken to various medical facilities in Nambacha and Navakholo but nothing positive has come out since then with the condition worsening each day.
“Through the assistance of friends, we have managed to take him to Kakamega General and Referral Hospital where several tests have been contacted and we are patiently waiting for the results before the next move,” he said.
“His situation has become so much complicated and we are appealing for the support from well-wishers in both material and also prayers, Jeremiah has remained a role model to many upcoming soccer stars and we pray for his quick recovery so that he can accomplish and realise his dream,” he added.
Wanjala joined Nzoia Sugar this season from Kakamega Homebozy, a club he had joined from Sony Sugar, having made his Kenyan Premier League debut in 2013 with Muhoroni Youth.
He earned his maiden call-up with the national football team Harambee Stars in March 2017 when then-coach Stanley Okumbi named him among a provisional squad of 26 local-based players for the international friendly matches against Uganda and DR Congo.
