A chaotic scene was witnessed on Tuesday afternoon at the Guinea-Bissau Football Association offices.
Football fans protesting against the ban of outgoing FFGB president Manuel de Nascimento Lopes stormed the offices a day before the FA’s elective assembly.
The more than 20 protestors evicted employees and locked the doors.
Some of the football governing body employees escaped through the window after the youth threatened to rough them up.
FFGB General Secretary Virginia da Cruz had to be whisked out of her office. The protestors camped outside her office demanding she speaks to them.
The media was barred from the centre of the drama, with the entrance to the office on the first floor blocked.
Four fans were arrested by the police and have recorded statements on the events at a nearby Zone 7 police station.
A statement issued by FFGB has acknowledged the arrest of the four fans though they failed to name and establish the motive behind the attack.
“At a time when less than 24 hours left for the elective congress to choose a new president, FFGB headquarters were attacked by a group of unidentified young people who were promptly stopped by the police force present in the federation and four of them were arrested,” reads part of the statement.
“It should be noted that all conditions are created for the elective congress tomorrow at the FFGB premises.”
At the centre of the drama is the ban of FFGB president Manuel de Nascimento Lopes who demands that he was illegally banned by FIFA for his involvement in an incident of mob justice.
His supporters want the elections to be stopped until an appeal which they claim has been filed by Lopes at Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is heard and determined.
FFGB cleared six leaders to contest for repeated elections set for September 30 after the first exercise was nullified by world football governing body FIFA.
FIFA highlighted a list of concerns regarding the disputed FFGB elections including questionable interpretation of statutes and requests for submission of unwarranted documentation from candidates.
Fernando Tavares, Benelivio Cabral Nancassa Insali, Mutaro Bari, Antonio Patrocínio, Paulo Mendonça and Caíto Teixeira were all cleared by the electoral commission contesting for the hot seat.
