Pyramids’ two-match winless streak came to a screeching halt following a solitary goal win over hosts Nkana FC at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Abdallah El-Said pounced to hand the Egyptians the much needed three points after finishing off a Ramadhan Sobhi assist.
The victory away took Pyramids to second in the Group D standings with nine points, three clear of Nkana with one round of group matches left.
Nkana had the upper hand and will blame themselves for wasting several scoring chances.
In the 85th minute Nkana’s Duke Abuya was well positioned but dilly dallied and was dispossessed.
Pyramids ensured they squeezed to the last eight as even if they lose in their last game against Namungo and the Zambians beat Raja, the Egyptians are assured of second spot as they have beaten Nkana home and away.
In the other Group D clash, Raja Casablanca of Morocco maintained the table lead after thrashing Namungo of Tanzania 3-0 in a one sided match played at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
Illias Haddad, Fabrice Ngoma and Zakaria Habti ensured the Green Eagles won their third away match that comfortably places then to 15points with one game remaining.
It was another poor outing for Namungo and frustration was evident not only in the touchline where head coach Seleiman Hemed at one time engaged the fourth official in a fierce verbal exchange and continued with his antics at the final whistle this time with his opposite number Lassaad Chabbi.
