French tactician Patrice Carteron has applied for the vacant position of taking charge of the Gabon national team following the exit of Daniel Cousin.

On Tuesday, April 2, the Gabon Football Federation (Fegafoot) opened doors for applications to stream in with the major aim of picking out the best coach for the Panthers. A number of tacticians from across the world have registered their interest in the job.

In fact, more than 20 CVs with right qualifications as advertised by Fegafoot have been so far received at the football house.

Ducor Sports discovered that Carteron, who has managed Mali national team and TP Mazembe, sent his resume for Gabon national team’s top job and he is among the persons in line for scrutiny as from Tuesday next week.

The 48-year old is currently coaching Raja Casablanca but regardless of his continuing project with the Green Eagles, looking ahead to win Moroccan league, Carteron has decided to apply for the Gabon top job.

Carteron retired from active football in 2007 after playing for a number of French sides including Stade Rennais, Olympique Lyonnais, Saint Etienne and Cannes.

He is most known for his time as Eagles of Mali manager where he led them to a 3rd place finish in the 2013 AFCON.

Other coaches who have applied for the job include Rolland Courbis (SM Caen), Didier Six, Lionel Soccoia and Thierry Mouyouma.

Carteron was hired in mid- January on a six month contract and led Raja Casablanca to victory in CAF Super Cup, narrowly beating Tunisia’s Esperance 2-1 to lift the trophy for the second time.
